One small town and the sea that left it

The town was drawn in thirty-nine quarters before anyone lived in it. Two thirds of them are still grass. The site is filed the same way.

Getting in touch

Corrections, photographs and documents are all welcome. Requests for opening hours are not — we do not have them.

Corrections and additions

Write to record@winchelsea.net. If you are correcting something, quoting the sentence helps. If you are adding something, tell us what the evidence is: a document, a photograph, a measurement, a memory clearly labelled as one.

Photographs

We are always short of good pictures of ordinary things — a street in flat light, a wall in rain, an empty quarter in winter. We will not publish an image that identifies a private home, and we credit every photograph we use.

What we cannot help with

Visits, access to private cellars, permission to film, valuations, family history enquiries, and anything requiring an official answer. This is a record kept by readers, not a service.

There is no form on this page on purpose: a form is a queue, and an address is a conversation.
