Open air theatre in Winchelsea
Every year, in August, the Rain Or Shine Theatre, one of the best touring companies in the country, perform in Winchelsea in the beautiful garden of Cleveland House. Why not join us? Bring a picnic, sit back and be entertained.
"The Importance of Being Earnest", 20 August 2010
In 2010, Rain Or Shine are taking a break from their traditional performance of Shakespeare and will be offering "The Importance of Being Earnest", Oscar Wilde's classic comedy of manners, morals and morality.
When two Victorian gentlemen assume the name of 'Earnest' to win the affections of two ladies, both determined to marry a man of that name, the scene is set for hilarious confusion in a world of handbags, perambulators, cucumber sandwiches, muffins, butlers, the upper classes and, of course, that theatrical tour de force --- Lady Bracknell!
The performance will take on the evening of Friday, 20 August 2010, in the garden of Cleveland House in Winchelsea.
Christmas Tour 2009
In 2009, Rain Or Shine returned to Winchelsea in late November to perform Dickens' classic, A Christmas Carol, in the evocative setting of the Church of St Thomas the Martyr. It was a spirited performance that delighted young and old, who had great fun providing the special effects. We hope Rain Or Shine will return again for Christmas 2010. Watch this space!
