Nos 1 and 2 White Close

Grade II (listed 3 August 1961)
One building. Probably 17th century or earlier, altered in
the 18th century and since. Two storeys and attic. Six windows.
Stuccoed. Tiled roof. The building is E-shaped. The 3 projections
have weather-boarded gables, the centre one being smaller
than the others, the South one having a tripartite attic window.
2 dormers between the gables. Modern casement or pivotted
windows. The North wing has a small modern bay on the ground
and first floors. Large modern four-sided projection to the
South East wing having a large 7-light window on the first
floor. The centre projection has a 18th century doorway with
pilasters, pediment, segmental fanlight and door of 6 fielded
panels.
Nos 1 - 5 Mariteau House

Late 18th century mansion, now five flats. Three storeys.
Five windows. Stuccoed, ground floor rusticated with stringcourse
above this. Stringcourse also above first floor. Cornice and
parapet with flat pediment over the 3 centre window bays which
are each flanked by Ionic pilasters rising through the first
and second floors. Windows in moulded surrounds with architraves
over those on the first floor. Glazing bars missing. The original
central doorway has been replaced by 2 modern round-headed
doorways. The centre window on the first and second floor
above this has been divided vertically into two by a partition
when the house was converted into flats. To the North is a
recessed addition, now No 5. This has two storeys and two
windows. Red brick and stone rubble. String- course and parapet.
Ground floor addition at south end now part of No 1.
Ballader's Plat and Little Plat

One building, Little Plat being in the main an addition to
the larger house. Probably 17th century or earlier, modernised.
Two storeys and attic. Five windows. Ground floor stuccoed,
above Ballader's Plat is fronted with white weather-boarding
and Little Plat tile-hung. Tiled roof. Ballader's Plat has
3 gables, the Southern- most one containing a Venetian window.
Three modern dormers in the portions between the gables. The
front of the ground floor is a wholly modern arrangement,
including garage doors, a recessed porch with good modern
wrought iron gates and a recessed window with 2 columns in
front of it. Little Plat has a projecting window in the South
East angle of its first floor.
Becket, Yew Tree Plat and Yew Tree
House

One building. 17th Century or earlier. Two storeys and attic.
Seven windows. Two hipped dormers. Ground floor painted brick,
above tile-hung. Half-hipped tiled roof. Mostly casement windows,
but two sashes. Modern bay in centre on both floors. North
end built out on pilasters of stone rubble. Yew Tree House
is an L-plan extension to the south west. Vaulted cellar of
about 1300 below Yew Tree Plat.
Sunrise Cottage and Rose Cottage

Two houses in the same range as the New Inn. 18th Century.
Two storeys and attic. Six windows and four dormers. Painted
brick. Stringcourse. Modillion eaves cornice. Hipped and mansarded
tiled roof. Sunrise Cottage has modern casement windows, Rose
Cottage sash windows with glazing bars. Doorways with flat
hoods on brackets and doors of four fielded panels.
The New Inn

18th century. Two storeys and attic. Two windows and three
dormers facing east, five windows and five dormers facing
north. Painted brick. Stringcourse. Modillion eaves cornice.
Mansarded and hipped tiled roof. Glazing bars intact. Two
bays on ground and first floors. Doorway with pilasters, of
which the lower portion is grooved, and projecting cornice
over. Vaulted cellar of about 1300 beneath the building.
